How it started

TV Channel History

Those that remember the start of Channel 5 in 1997 who watched TV via the national terrestrial analogue transmissions (which was most of us) may less-fondly remember the extensive re-tuning of their VHS recorders and poor reception quality. When Channel 5 finally launched on the 30th March 1997, it opened with “Power of Five” - a specially written song by The Spice Girls (who had 5 members). The broadcaster took its place as one of the UK's top TV Channel.
